Precious Plastic Penguins

Hi! Crafters!

Here is an upcyle idea for a project which I like is really cute it is making penguins out of 2-liker empty coke bottles. If you are like my family that drink a lot of soda/pop you have a lot of empty one sitting around or someone cold drink fast.

This one web site I went to states to start your own local plastic workshop.

Precious Plastic Penguins

Materials:  two plastic bottle, acrylic paint, paint brush, hot glue gun, old socks or felt, pom-pom, black marker, white glue, scissor,  acrylic varnish

Instructions:

Wash the bottles and let dry completely.

Cut the first bottle separating the bottom. Cut the second bottle in half. Use only these two parts of the bottles.

Attach the two plastic part together. The larger part must fit in the smaller part, more or less 0.5 to 1 inch. Once attached, press the bigger part down and put a drop of hot glue between the parties. Put the hot glue in four places more or less opposite to each other. Be careful that the glue it is not that hot, not to deform the plastic

Draw the belly of the penguin on a sheet of paper or cardboard and cut out to make the mold. Pass the drawing for the body with the black marker.

Paint the belly with white paint, and be careful not to smudge the outline in black.  Spend 2-3 coats if necessary.

Paint the body and feet of the penguin in black. Let it dry.

Paint the eyes and mouth. Let it dry.

Varnish throughout the penguin. Let it dry.

Option: If you do not have old socks, you will need foam od black and foam of yellow to make flippers and feet.

Cut out two wings from the yellow foam or flippers from black foam . Snip the remainder of the black construction paper into a square shape.

Now for the hat cut sock to make the hat and if the hat is little too long fold sock and make a brim for the hat.  With glue put the glue on the pom-pom and glue to top of hat.

Using the sock, make the scarf by cut the sides for the scarf. Length of scarf maybe limited o the size of sock. If the sock is not long enough to wrap around bottle you may have to sew or use sewing adhesive tape to put the sides together

Attach scarf to bottle using glue to tack it in place.

Note: If you do not have a sock and using felt make two triangles that will fix the bottle then hat glue together on two sides glue to top of bottle.

Share your ideas on this or anything here on the blog either here or e-mail me at sandi_tipple@yahoo.com.  I look forward to hearing from you!
