Christmas Projects to make

Her are various project an individual might like to make for the tree, gifts and/or just for general holiday decorating.

Mini Bell Wreath Embroidery Hoop Ornament

Materials:  Small Embroidery Hoop (2-inch), Yarn, Jingle Bells

Directions:
Cut off a piece of yarn that is 3 to 4 yards long (it's better to have too much than too little) and tie one end to the embroidery hoop.  You can leave a tail of an inch or two. Add a bit of tape to the other end to make it easier to string the bells on. Start wrapping the embroidery hoop with the yarn, and then add a bell. Wrap it in such a way that the bell goes in the center of the hoop. See below:

Continue wrapping and adding bells along the way. When you get to the end, wrap the yarn a few times around the metal bracket and secure with a knot.  Use the extra yarn to tie a loop for hanging.
Note: an individual could also use this same technique for a head band with bells.

Up-Cycled Button Container

Materials: googley eyes, button, ribbon, hot glue or E6000, barrel container, fabric, rick-rack, lace
Note: You might like to use clean pill container or old film container.  In addition you could paint and then embellish the container

Directions:
Assemble supplies. Gather a variety of sewing items and experiment with
Glue the lid on top with E6000.
Measure the fabric and tear a strip to fit.
Glue the fabric to the barrel. Secure it with a few drops of glue around the barrel so the fabric doesn’t slip.
Try several trims to see what designs you would use.
Apply a few drops of glue around the barrel and glue the lace down. You can use fabric glue for this part of the project.
Choose, cut, and glue rick-rack on top of the lace.
Glue buttons around the barrel.

Layered Felt Winter Bookmarks

The above picture only shows one of the bookmarks; however, the directions include all of them.

Materials:  see colors below needed for the felt, embroidery floss, thin ribbon, hole puncher, felt or tacky glue
Cut out all pattern pieces -  cut the palm tree top from the trunk on the dotted line.
Cut out the following pieces of felt (these are the colors I used):
*two 2" by 6" rectangles of each color - turquoise, white, and blue
*one penguin shape from black
*one penguin stomach from white
*two penguin feet from orange
*three fish from any color
*one piece cut from tie dye felt to represent southern lights
*one palm tree trunk from medium brown - add about 1/4 inch to the top
*one palm tree leaf top from green
*two small circles from brown for coconuts
*one water from white
*one sand from light brown
*one sun from golden yellow
*one circle for inner sun part from orange
*one snowman shape from white
*one hat from black
*two arms from brown
*one scarf from purple
*one triangle for carrot nose from orange
*cut three white small circles for snowballs
*cut two small black circles for buttons

Layer pieces on book mark backgrounds and attach with small dots of glue - blue background for snowman, white for penguin, and turquoise for beach.
Using two strands of embroidery thread, attach all pieces with a blanket stitch.  Make x's for texture on the palm tree trunk, make snowflakes in the sky on the snowman marker using straight stitches, and use french knots (3 wraps) for eyes on the penguin, fish, and snowman.  See this post for embroidery stitch instructions.
Punch holes in the top of bookmark fronts and backs.  If your hole puncher is really sharp, you'll be able to do both layers at once.  Otherwise, punch the front piece, line up the back piece and punch it second.
Cut ribbon to the length you want and loop attach through the holes.  Attach fronts to backs with a blanket stitch using all 6 strands of floss.  Be sure to take a stitch through the knot of the ribbon to keep it from coming undone.
