BLOG SERIES: For the Beginner Crocheter- Part 3B

Now for the Double Crochet!

Again, you will need to start with making a foundation chain.  In addition use both loops until you get the hang of doing a double crochet.  Later, you can try the back or front loop methods.  First yarn over on the hook, then insert hook into the 2nd chain from the hook, then yarn over on the hook again and pull stitch through the first two loops, then yarn over on the hook and pull through two loops. Start over in next chain until the last chain, then chain one and turn. Repeat until you make the desire amount rows.

Step 1: Wrap your yarn over your crochet hook.
Step 2: Insert your crochet hook into the stitch or space desired.
Step 3: After you've inserted your hook, wrap your yarn around it so that the hook can grab the yarn.
Step 4: Pull the loop through. You now have three loops on your hook.
Step 5: Wrap the yarn over your hook again.
Step 6: Pull the wrapped yarn through two of the loops on your crochet hook.
Step 7: Wrap the yarn around the hook again.
Step 8: Grab the wrapped yarn with your crochet hook, and pull it through the remaining two loops.
First Double crochet is finished.  Now repeat across the row and last double crochet you do a chain stitch and then turn and start all over again.

Again, they suggest that you can also watch is video from Edna Kurtzman http://video.about.com/crochet/How-to-Double-Crochet.htm or Double crochet tutorial from Lion Brand Yarn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB-E6GS84pk
