Here is just the first group of Reindeer items for kids to make for
Christmas.
Puzzle Piece
Reindeer Ornament
Materials: Old Puzzle Pieces, Paint,
Craft Glue, Pom-poms, Wiggle Eyes, Ribbon, Chenille
Stems, Jingle Bell, Paint
Brush, Scissors, and Clear Acrylic Spray
(optional - not pictured)
Directions:
Start off by painting your puzzle pieces. For my reindeer, I
painted 2 puzzle pieces brown. Let the paint dry.
To make your reindeer's head, glue one puzzle piece on top of
the other as shown in the photo. Be generous with the glue. Once the glue is
dry, flip your puzzle pieces over and add more glue where the pieces join
together just to make it a little stronger. Once all of the glue is dry, you
can give your ornament a protective coating using clear acrylic spray if you
desire.
Glue a pom-pom onto the reindeer's head as shown. This will be
the nose.
Simply glue two wiggle eyes into place.
Cut a piece of ribbon that is 8- to 10-inches long. Take your
ribbon, fold it in half, and glue the ends to the top back of your reindeer.
This will be your loop for hanging the ornament.
To make your reindeer's antlers, start out by cutting a chenille
stem in half. Fold each half in half, and use the photo as a guide form forming
them into antlers.
Use a generous amount of glue and attach the antlers to the
back side of the reindeer's head.
To add a couple finishing touches to my reindeer ornament, make
a little bow using ribbon and glued it to the top of the reindeer's head along
with a jingle bell. You can leave your reindeer plain, embellish it, or use
your own creative ideas. Once all of the glue is dry, hang up your ornament and
enjoy!
Clothespin Reindeer
Ornament
Depending on
the age of the child adult supervision may be required.
Materials: Cardboard, 3 Clothes
pins, glue gun, acrylic paint brown, googly eyes, jingle bell, pom-pom, and
ribbon or you can purchase reindeer ornaments at Oriental Trading kit.
Directions:
Cut the head
and the body out of cardboard (freehand) and let the kids paint both sides of
them brown. The kids also painted the three clothespins.
Used a glue gun to glue on the eyes and the nose or you could
probably use regular glue. Clip the clothespins legs onto the body. Clip the
ribbon (for hanging the ornament) inside the third clothespin and clipped it
onto the front of the body. (It will hold the head and will be the antlers.) Take
another piece of ribbon and tied it onto the jingle bell.
Finally, glue the head on the front clothespin and glued the
jingle bell just below on the paperclip.
Reindeer complete!
Reindeer
Rule
Materials: wooden
ruler(s),
1/2" wood button plug, two cacti wood cutouts, sanding block, acrylic paint: chocolate brown, white, black, red
spray paint: textured brown, Plaid Extreme Glitter: red
stylus for dotting eyes, appropriate
sized paintbrushes, (1"
wash or sponge roller for rulers, 1/2" wash for noses, liner brush for
mouths), glue gun and glue sticks,
8" length of ribbon for scarf
Directions:
Base coat the rulers with two coats of chocolate brown
acrylic paint. Use a sponge roller to
apply the base coat.
To give the antlers a little texture – so I sprayed them
with Rust-oleum
textured spray paint.
Paint the button plugs red, and adds a thick coat of Extreme
Glitter.
Use a paintbrush handle to dot the eyes with white.
Once
the larger white dots have dried completely, use a stylus to dot the centers of
the eyes with black.
Use the glue gun to attach the nose and
the cacti for the antlers;
then use the liner brush and apply the mouth with thinned white paint.
To finish, tie the ribbon around the reindeer's neck.
Reindeer Thumbprint Coffee Cup
Materials: Coffee cup, Enamel paint, and Sharpie
Directions:
Before you begin wash your coffee
cup and remove the sticker from the bottom of the cup. Once completely dry
decide where to place your reindeer thumb prints. Paint the thumb with brown
paint. Coat it well to get a good print, and then press evenly onto mug. Allow
paint to dry.
After it is dry using a black
Sharpie put antlers on the reindeer, draw eyes on the face and write the name
of the person under the thumbprint. Next use the red paint to place dots on the
thumbprint for the nose.
Before baking you may write any
message along the bottom of the cup. “Merry Christmas”, but you may write your
own message making it more meaningful to your family. Don’t forget the date!
Once everything is on the cup,
place on a cookie sheet in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. This
will set your design. Let cool completely before handling. It will be very hot.
The cup can be used for drinking.
