Additional ideas for your PET!!

Just trying to get a quick blog out before I go into the hospital for another heart surgery early this morning.

I have been working on a cat toy.  I had gotten bulky yarn for Christmas from my oldest son. Besides getting some from one of the yarn bombs.  Here is the first one they way the pattern stated to do.

The other ones I did I slip stitch across the back and did 3 chains and pull the chain through the center whole and then took the chain and continued making them until I got 76. I pulled the yarn through so I could use it and do the single crochets.  When finish I end off but left a 3 inch yarn piece and weave the 3 inch on the back.  Finished.

Here the directions for the cat toy.  They state scary spider but Scott and I think more of octopus toy.
Use L hook.  Ch 4
Rnd 1 (right side): 15 dc in the 4th ch from hook 3 ch count as one dc. (16 dc) Join with sl st in the 4th ch.
Rnd 2 *ch 16, hdc in 2nd ch and in each rem ; skip next dc on rnd1, sc in next dc; rep from * 7 times more (8 legs mad, join base of leg with sl st or proceed like I did to do a continuous cord.

Cord: Leaving an 8"  yarn end; ch 75.
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch; 74sc.  Finish off, leaving 6" yarn.  Weave end back through center. Tie a knot at the end of cord.
(At this point I again change it when I did the cord and weave it through the center and weave each side with sl st then I did knot and weave some mote than tie another knot.)

Cat treats to make for your pet

I have always want treats that were healthier than store bought ones and with my old cat that has trouble stomach issues. Sorry, there is no pictures,

Liver-Loving Cat Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup dry milk, cow or goat
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine dry milk with wheat germ. Add honey and pureed liver to dry ingredients and mix well.
Use hands to roll mixture into petite-size balls no bigger than a marble, and place on a well-greased or nonstick, coated cookie sheet. Flatten each one with the back of a spoon.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Consistency will be like fudge.
Refrigerate in an airtight container, or store in the freezer if keeping them for more than several days.

Ham It up Cat Treats

Ingredients:
  • 1 jar (2-1/2ounces) strained ham baby food
  • 5/8 cup wheat germ
  • 5/8 cup non-fat milk powder
  • 1 egg, beaten
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray cookie sheet with vegetable oil spray. Mix baby food, wheat germ, milk powder, and egg in medium bowl. Drop by 1/2 teaspoonful onto prepared baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on wire rack. Store baked treats in airtight container or plastic bag and place in refrigerator or freezer.
MAKES: 2-1/2 to 3 dozen.
NOTE: Beef or chicken baby food may be substituted for ham baby food.

Cat Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 7 oz mashed sardines
  • 1/4 cup dry non-fat milk
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
Directions:
Mix ingredients. Roll into 24 small balls. Placed on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees until brown.

Cat Cheese Please

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 2 tbl plain yogurt or sour cream
  • A little oatmeal
  • 2 tbl margarine or low-fat spread
Directions:
Mash all of the ingredients together, adding them in the order indicated above, and serve cold. No cooking is required for this dish. Some cats will not take to this dish as it is not meat based: others will love it.

Kitty Biscuits

Ingredients:
1 pound liver, organs, or other meat
2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
2 cups bran
1/4 cup cooking oil

Directions:
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Cover meat with cold water and bring to a boil. Immediately lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove meat from water and let cool; retain water.
When meat is completely cool, chop into 1-inch pieces and grind in food processor, chop in a blender or process through a meat grinder until it is finely ground. Mix ground meat, bran, oatmeal, and oil, adding the cooking water from the meat as necessary to make thick dough.
Avoid using any more liquid than needed to make a dough that is coarse and just wet enough to work with. Shape the dough into flattened balls or little bone shapes and arrange on an oiled baking sheet. Bake for 3 hours. Then, turn off the heat and let the biscuits cool in the oven to ensure they are hard and crunchy.
Let the biscuits air dry for 24 hours and store in an airtight container on the shelf for up to 4 weeks.
NOTE: When making this recipe for cats, shape the biscuits into tiny bits for easy chewing.
HINT: A good idea for getting the meat for this recipe is to save organs from chickens, turkeys, etc. in a plastic bag in the freezer until you have enough to make this yummy treat.

Tuna Patties with Tuna Pops

Ingredients:
1 can of tuna, rice, pureed liver, parsley

Directions:
Drain the tuna and set aside the liquid, which you'll use for the tuna pops.
Mix tuna with rice, pureed liver and parsley.
Divide mixture into 8 equal portions, shape into balls and flatten them into patties.
Refrigerate in an airtight container and serve as individual snacks. Pour drained liquid into a small plastic pill organizer with dividers and freeze. When ready to serve, remove a tuna pop by twisting and pressing on the organizer as you would an ice tray. Place in a bowl so your cat can lick it.

How to Prepare Homemade Cat Food

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups diced chicken, turkey or fish
  • 1/2 cup carrots or squash
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice or rolled oats

Directions:

Make sure to include all the nutrients your cat needs. In addition to plenty of fresh water, cats need proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals on a daily basis. Vitamin supplements formulated for cats can be mixed into the food while it is being prepared.
Give your cat raw food if the animal likes it. The less a cat's food is cooked, the more nutritious it is. In a food processor, combine 3 cups diced chicken, 1 cup cooked brown rice, 1/2 cup peas and carrots, 1 hard-boiled egg, 1 tsp. olive oil and 3 cat multivitamins. Puree until smooth. Place it in a medium bowl with a lid if you are going to refrigerate it. Separate it into serving-size portions in resealable bags for freezing. Make sure to label and date the food you are freezing.
Make up a batch of cooked food ahead of time. If you are uncomfortable giving your pet raw meat, cook it before adding it to the other items. For example, sauté 3 cups ground turkey until fully browned. Drain off grease and put the turkey in a food processor. Add 1 cup cooked rolled oats, 1/2 cup pureed pumpkin, 1 hard-boiled egg, 1 tsp. flaxseed oil and 3 cat multivitamins. Puree everything until smooth. Refrigerate in a covered bowl, or divide single portions into resealable bags and freeze.
